Longevity scientist Dr. Andrew Steele
Our founder, Brad Inman, interviewed Dr. Andrew Steele over breakfast in Paris. Steele is a science writer, computational biologist, and author of the highly acclaimed book Ageless: The New Science of Getting Older Without Getting Old.
A physicist and leading voice in longevity research, he makes the future of health both exciting and accessible for everyone.
This week, Steele talks about why you should never skip brushing your teeth, the simplest longevity hack anyone can do, and the essential next steps to launch the next wave of longevity science and research.

Good morning! I’m here with Andrew Steele, fresh from Berlin to Paris. Andrew, you’re our first guest for the Livelong Breakfast Club. Did you enjoy your croissant (for breakfast)? My question is, can we eat croissants and still live long?
Absolutely! Longevity isn’t about perfection every day—it’s about long-term habits. Croissants aren’t ideal every morning—they’re high in fat and carbs. But in Paris? You’ve got to try one. They’re better here than in Berlin.
Good to hear! I’ll have one after this interview. What is one longevity hack that's surprisingly low effort?
Brushing your teeth was the advice that surprised me most during my research for Ageless. Brushing twice daily and cleaning between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes is essential. There’s evidence linking good dental hygiene to longevity, as chronic inflammation from oral bacteria can affect your health over many years.
Washing your hands is another basic habit we should keep, right? If we followed these habits, we’d probably be healthier.
Yes. Getting vaccinated, washing your hands, and avoiding situations where you might get sick are essential. These actions prevent illness in the short term and may slow the aging process.
What's one over-hyped hack that doesn't add up to what you see promoted on TikTok or social media? Is there one that annoys the hell out of you?
I find most supplements frustrating. Extensive clinical trials show that basic supplements, like vitamins, do nothing or may even slightly reduce lifespan. We know these don’t work. As for newer and so-called ‘cutting-edge supplements,’ no human data supports their effectiveness.
