Happy Friday,

Father’s Day is this weekend, and today’s issue is a special Father’s Day healthy gift guide. But first, some dad jokes. Laughter boosts the immune system and makes you feel happier—maybe it is the best medicine. 😂

  • Which days are the strongest? Saturday and Sunday. The rest are weekdays.

  • Why did the fish stop lifting weights? He pulled a mussel.

  • A biologist grew human vocal cords from stem cells in the lab. The results speak for themselves.

Singul-Her: Why single women are thriving

Singlehood doesn’t mean feeling lonely–and for women, it might actually lead to a fulfilling life. A new survey shows that single women report greater happiness than single men, largely thanks to strong social connections. 😁

Women tend to cultivate deeper, more fulfilling relationships–creating the ‘proverbial village’ of people to help them get through life.

🫂 This connectedness is an active pursuit, and a rewarding one.

Women generally have a wide network of ‘go-to’ people—this reinforces strong bonds and connections, which can increase survival outcomes by as much as 50%, based on Stanford research.

  • It could be that strong social frameworks can significantly lower disease risk. For instance, ”the effect of social isolation on hypertension exceeded that of clinical risk factors such as diabetes in old age,” write authors of a 2016 report.

But what about research showing that marriage is linked with a longer life?

In many of these studies, the longevity benefits of partnership boil down to having a support system and less loneliness. 🤲 So while the single woman remains unattached (romantically), she may be better equipped to cultivate non-romantic partnerships and support systems.

The takeaway? Relationships promote happiness

While women—whether single or partnered—generally report being more happy than men, anyone can cultivate more healthy and fulfilling relationships.

🤙 Whether it's a phone call with an old friend, playing sports, or talking with a therapist, find support for your health and happiness.

Functional and health-boosting gifts for the men in your life, just in time for summer.

As summer kicks off and Father’s Day approaches, we are invited to spend more time outdoors.

☀️ With long days and sunshine, you can’t help but be active, pick up healthy habits, or stay up late to soak in the extra quality time.

Whether shopping for dad, your partner, your grandfather—or yourself—these gifts are functional, longevity- and health-minded, and rooted in emerging science and nature. 🌴

From sleep tools to outdoors gear, these products are designed to energize, boost recovery, and support long-term aging.

  1. Trade or Atlas coffee subscription: One or two cups of coffee a day has been linked to 60% reduction in Alzheimer's risk. 🧠 Coffee is loaded with antioxidants and polyphenols, especially if it is roasted and sourced well. Subscriptions to Trade Coffee and Atlas Coffee Club include monthly deliveries of beans cultivated around the world with brain-boosting potential.

  2. Adjustable dumbbells: 🏋️ Strength training is one of the best defenses against aging and age-related diseases, particularly heart disease, and promotes muscle for healthy aging and lifelong mobility. Adjustable dumbells are a great option because you can load weight in increments as you continue to build strength.

  3. 42 Birds Cork Lightweight Yoga Mat And Massage Balls Bundle: Made from sustainable and chemical-free cork and recommended by the experts at Outside magazine, this bundle is ideal for low-intensity work. The small massage tools promote fascia release to maintain flexibility, mobility, and faster, pain-free recovery. 🧘

  4. Roka performance sunglasses: Roka shades use ultra-lightweight, durable, and advanced materials that are built for performance and everyday wear–rain or shine. Endorsed by ultramarathoner and health podcaster Rich Roll, they support vision as we age. But many say the sweat-proof resilience is reason enough to get them.

  5. Cuisineart Indoor/Outdoor Electric Grill: Electric grilling has a lower risk of causing cancer when compared to traditional charcoal or fire-based grilling methods. 🔥 This non-toxic electric grill can still sear meat at a 550 degree temperature, without the carcinogenic smoke. The compact size allows it to be set up in different environments.

  6. Paka Trail Socks: Quick-drying, temperature-regulating, and odor-combatting, these socks–made from alpaca fibers–are made for all-day wear. 🧦 Since they naturally keep feet dry, they are a solid choice for outdoors hikes and intense workouts. Healthy feet means less infections, better blood flow, and stronger skin that takes you further.

  7. Barefoot shoes: 👟 Older adults require more sensory feedback from the ground. Increasingly spending time in minimalist footwear and barefoot shoes could increase spatial awareness and feedback from the ground, improving stability, foot strength, autonomy, and gait, which reduces the risk of falls, hip fractures, and chronic disease.

  1. Ozlo sleepbuds: Sleep is a pillar of health, yet more than half of older Americans struggle with sleep issues. These sleep buds are designed to be comfortable and sound changes frequencies throughout the night to mask outside noise and promote an entire night of sleep, increasing restoration, energy, and performance. 💤

  2. Mineral sunscreen: Support his time outdoors with mineral sunscreen. Travel+Leisure recommends this mineral sunscreen because it is waterproof with a non-white sheer finish, reef-friendly, and has chemical-free actives. Most importantly, the spf 50 sunscreen can block harmful UVA and UVB rays, which are one of the major causes of skin aging and skin cancer.

  3. Curious Cocktail Club: 🍷 Cutting back on alcohol can reduce DNA damage, inflammation, and support healthy aging. 🧬 Curious Elixirs has a monthly subscription of specialty non-alcoholic cocktail, wine, and beer alternatives. Refined sugar-free and crafted with calming herbs and adaptogens, the drinks contain ingrediants that may reduce stress and boost immunity.

✏️ Prompt

Last week we asked: In one sentence: What does “healthy aging” actually mean?

One Livelong reader writes: Healthy aging means balance—taking care of yourself with fitness, diet, and sleep, but also not going to the extremes and neglecting the things that make life fun.

We couldn’t agree more! Stay tuned for more journal prompts.
