Former President Joe Biden (82), recently diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 prostate cancer, might have been able to catch it earlier if he had continued screening past recommended guidelines, says Geoffrey Sonn, an associate professor of urology at Stanford University School of Medicine in The Hill.
“The news is nothing short of a tragic demonstration of medicine 2.0 [the current model of medicine] at it’s worst,” comments longevity expert Peter Attia in his weekly newsletter.
It also sparks a major point of debate in prostate cancer care (and cancer care in general): screening guidelines.
Since 2018, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends:
Make an individual decision to get screened between ages 55-69 (or otherwise, depending on risk factors).
Don’t get screened after age 70. Older men are “so likely to have prostate cancer” that it’s not worth it, says Otis Brawley, a prostate cancer and screening specialist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, in The New York Times.
Experts do not anticipate the screening guidelines will change, so men must be proactive about getting screened and understanding the risk factors.

🌊 In a sea of beauty products, marine collagen stands out.
Across multiple studies, marine collagen demonstrates more anti-aging effects than traditional animal-based collagen, whether it’s plumping or and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, according to Vogue.
🦴 As an added bonus, marine collagen strengthens cartilage and bone, having the potential to prevent osteoporosis.
🟦💦 Why marine? It is rich in amino acids, building blocks of protein that help to form the structure of collagen.
Collagen is the most common protein found in the body, promoting elasticity, hydration, and strength, says nutritionist Jen Mackinder of Revive in Vogue.
What’s the best type of marine collagen? Hydrolyzed marine collagen, boasting a 90% absorption rate. Experts recommend taking 2.5–15 grams of hydrolyzed peptides per day.
Healthy additions:
🍊 +Vitamin C — vitamin C stimulates collagen production and supports muscle growth.
🐮 +Whey protein powder — collagen provides the amino acids and whey supports muscle growth.

If you want to feel more motivated, consider doing a contribution journal (‘reverse gratitude journal’) alongside your gratitude journal.
📢 Unlike gratitude journaling—which promotes happiness—contribution journaling lists ways in which you were useful to people, which is much more motivational, says author and organizational psychologist Adam Grant in an Instagram Reel.
When you think about what you ‘offer’ rather than what you ‘receive’ from others, it promotes self-worth and connection, adds psychologist Ciara Bogdanovic of Sagebrush Psychotherapy in Apartment Therapy.
Try it! Every evening for one week, write down three contributions you made that day, big or small. ➕

We asked: What is your favorite way to consume turmeric?
#1: Turmeric supplements. Nearly 40% of you do take supplements, which can have numerous anti-inflammatory benefits (at the right dose!)
#2: Golden milk. It becomes more nutritious when you add cracked black pepper, as the pepper helps your body absorb curcumin, a healthy compound found in turmeric, more easily.
